Trinidad and Tobago Could Expand Trade With These Three Countries

A group of countries including the Dominican Republic, Canada and India are looking to expand trade with Trinidad and Tobago.

Dominican Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago Dr Jose Serulle Ramia, in a visit with Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon this week, said the twin-island state was a very important trade partner.

“there is much we can do between both countries and we are looking for exchanges and areas of corporation in terms of trade,” he said. “We want to increase our local manufacturer’s exports to the DR market. Given our economic situation we are looking to the non-energy sectors to bring us the revenues we are used to.”

Gopee-Scoon also recently hosted Canadian High Commissioner Gerard Latulippe, who said Canada was looking to “increase the exports of local products and to secure investments from Canadian firms in T&T.”

India, too expressed its interested in expanded trade with Trinidad and Tobago, with Indian High Commissioner telling Gopee-Scoon that “India has much to offer in the area of pharmaceuticals, garments, auto components etc. and the trade between both countries need to be increased.”
