In Abaco, A Focus on Art

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - December 10, 2015

You might say the Bahamas is a work of art itself.

But the natural beauty of the 700-island archipelago has also inspired some spectacular artwork, some of which will be on hand at this weekend’s Art for the Parks festival.

The festival, produced by the Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour Marina, aims to support environmental conservation in the Bahamas through art.

“This event has become a yearly staple at the resort,” said Brent Ingraham, Abaco Beach Resort’s director of sales and marketing. “We are proud to play a part in the preservation of our natural environment while also exhibiting the work of our talented community. Art for the Parks is important not only to raise much needed funds, but to also remind us of the importance of protecting our natural surroundings.  It’s important to our economy and to our future generations.”

The festival is coordinated by the Bahamas National Trust in partnership with the Abaco Beach Resort.

It launches with an opening gala on Dec. 11 and continues throughout the weekend with a farmer’s market, music, local cuisine and an “interactive speaker corner.”

More than 30 artists and craftsmen from around the Bahamas will have their work on display, with proceeds going toward the preservation of Abaco’s six national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
