Haiti is not unaccustomed to high-profile visitors, from the Clintons to NBA stars like Dwyane Wade, particularly as it has raised its tourism profile in recent years.

This weekend, though, perhaps an even higher-wattage star traveled to the island: singer Beyoncé, aka Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.

The global superstar came to the island with a United Nations humanitarian delegation led by Valerie Amos, the UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.

According to the UN, the aim of the trip was to examine the progress made in the country since the devastating earthquake of 2010.

Knowles-Carter was wearing a shirt with the logo of her charity organization, BeyGood.

It was the latest Caribbean trip for the singer, whose full name is Beyonce Knowles, following a visit to Cuba with husband Jay-Z in 2013 that caused controversy because of US travel restrictions to the island.

That trip was reportedly done under a license for people-to-people and educational travel.

Knowles-Carter had something of a tangible interest in Haiti’s earthquake progress: she made a $1 million donation to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund in 2011, following criticism of her performing at a concert funded by a son of former Libyan leader Muammar el-Qaddafi.
