Two top United States officials are visiting Haiti and the Dominican Republic this week.

Counselor Thomas A Shannon and Special Coordinator for Haiti Thomas C Adams are traveling to the two countries from March 29 to 31.

The pair will meet with senior government officials, civil society and the private sector, according to a statement from the State Department.

The three-day visit began Sunday with a trip to Santo Domingo, during which the two officials were set to meet with Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina and several other officials.

“They will discuss preparations for the Summit of the Americas, regional relations, and bilateral issues of interest and importance,” the State Department said. “While in the Dominican Republic, the Counselor and Special Coordinator will also meet with representatives of civil society to discuss issues of migration and worker rights.”

On Monday, the two officials head to Port-au-prince to meet with Haitian government officials, international organizations and the MINUSTAH peacekeeping mission.
