A Must-Visit Food Truck in St Martin

ST MARTIN — It’s the doughy, crunchy, spicy wonder: the bokit, the famous street sandwich of the islands of Guadeloupe.

But thanks to a pair of culinary entrepeneurs, you can now find it in St Martin.

Just past the roundabout between Anse Marcel and Orient Beach is the BM Snack food truck.

It’s operated by husband and wife Marta and Mannix; Marta, a native of St Martin, is the chef, Mannix, a native of the outskirts of Pointe-a-Pitre, is the fan of the bokit.

They work each day here together, behind the counter, smiling their way through dozens of bokits, sandwiches and assorted French Caribbean lunchtime fare.

The main event, though, is a freshly-fried, classic bokit, filled with whatever your heart desires: morue, jambon, or the like, best with mayonnaise or a piquante sauce.

It’s been open for almost two years now, a tiny taste of Guadeloupe in the heart of St Martin.

And it’s certainly worth the trip.
