Dominica is looking to inject more funding into the country’s Ministry of Culture.

New Dominica Culture Minister Justina Charles says “culture needs to be preserved and therefore needs more attention to be able to survive and thrive.”

“We’ve had meetings with the department of Culture and have articulated some of the things that we would want to see in the department,” Charles said. “We realize that this is something that we really have to preserve and we need to inject a little more resources into.”

For now, the Minister said, the department of culture is growing, but so, too is the demand for financial assistance.

“so we have to look at how we can make it sustainable, manage resources efficiently and inject more funds because of the demands,” she said.
