PORT OF SPAIN — The former Capital Plaza Hotel in Port of Spain, Trinidad is now a Radisson Hotel.

The $30 million dollar structure was officially opened with a launch event on Monday evening.

Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar welcomed the investment, which she said would also provide employment opportunities, commending the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group for the “confidence they have reposed in the economy of Trinidad and Tobago” and for the substantial investment in the country.

The Hotel’s Managing Director, Daniel Nicholas, said the Group was pleased with its decision to extend the Radisson Brand to Trinidad.

Issa Nicholas, chairman of the hotel, said he was happy to have partnered with Radisson and that he saw this relationship lasting more than 10 years.

Asked if he was worried about competition from the Hyatt Regency, Nicholas said competition is always good as it keeps you on your toes to ensure the service to customers is 100 percent.

The hotel is employing 300 people.
