After a nearly 10-month hiatus, Jamaican Prime Minister has returned to social media.

Simpson Miller, whose strong social media presence helped her capture the December 2011 national elections, had last posted on Twitter and Facebook on April 2.

During the time when her page had been regularly updated, she was one of few Caribbean heads of state or government who had active presences on social media, including Haiti President Michel Martelly, Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and Trinidad and Tobago President Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

With almost 21,000 Facebook “likes,” Simpson Miller has among the largest social media followings of any Caribbean leader.

During the PM’s social media hiatus, the Jamaica House page was updated regularly, although it has a significantly smaller audience, with just over 1,800 “likes.”

Haiti President Michel Martelly has the most Facebook followers of any Caribbean leader, with almost 147,000.

“Pleased to be in the Republic of Cuba for the CELAC Summit, in solidarity with the governments and peoples of the Caribbean and Latin America….and to participate in an Official visit,” she posted.

It was not clear if the postings were from her communications team or Simpson Miller herself.

Her page has been regularly updated since her arrival in Havana.
