The 150-bed Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital is set to open in Grand Cayman’s East End in February, according to cardiologist and medical entrepreneur Dr Devi Shetty.

The project is called “Health City Cayman Islands.”

Shetty, who oversees a network of 14 hospitals in India, told Cabinet Ministers last week that the hospital project would open Feb. 24, 2014.

The major medical tourism project will include a medical/nursing college and eventually a hotel to house overseas patients seeking medical care.

Future projects could include a medical school on Cayman Brac, according to Shetty.

Shetty said the hospital would use “sophisticated technology and interactive software to enhance patient care,” along with qualified medical specialists, primarily in cardiology, orthopedics and eventually oncology.

The Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital first opened in Bangalore.
