China Harbour Engineering Company to Set Up Jamaica Office

The China Harbour Engineering Company is planning to establish offices in Jamaica as a regional hub for its operations, according to Jamaica Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.

The state-owned company is carrying out a range of projects across the Caribbean region. It is a subsidiary of China Communications and Construction Company.

Simpson Miller said Jamaica would “provide support” to CHEC in establishing its hub in Jamaica.

Liu Qitao, president of CCCC, said the company was looking to Jamaica as a “major investment target market” as part of its future expansion projects.

“We hope that Jamaica can provide us with such a platform that will further develop our collaboration and to expand our collaboration to larger scales and higher levels,” Liu said.

CHEC is focusing on the Kingston Harbour General Operating Project and a long-term concession for the Kingston Container Terminal, among other projects.
