Trinidad and Venezuela held talks this week on the “unitization of cross-border hydrocarbon reservoirs” between the two countries.

It was the second time the two countries had convened the “Joint Steering Committee” on the subject, led by Angel Gonzalez Saltron, Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons for Venezuela’s Energy Ministry and Selwyn Lashley, permanent secretary in Trinidad’s Energy Ministry.

Trinidad Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine met with the committee before the start of discussions.

The talks followed a commitment made by Trinidad Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro during a visit by the latter to Port of Spain earlier this month.

The talks centred on the presentation and approval of reports of technical working groups on the Kapok/Dorado oil fields and the Cocuina Manakin fields.

The Joint Ministerial Comission will meet in Caracas on the subject in early August.
