Jamaica has appointed Ambassador Courtney Rattray as the country’s new Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Rattray will take up the post in June, succeeding Ambassador Raymond Wolfe, who has served as Jamaica’s representative at the UN for the last seven years.

Wolfe has proceeded on pre-retirement leave, the government said.

Rattray has been serving as Jamaica’s Ambassador to China since 2008, also holding the post of non-resident Ambassador to Vietnam and Laos, among other Asian states.

He began his foreign service career in 2000 as an advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

“As Foreign Minister, I am confident that Ambassador Rattray is the most appropriate selection to lead Jamaica’s UN Permanent Mission in New York at this time and to promote the vital role of the UN in the advancement of multilateralism,” said Foreign Minister AJ Nicholson.
