The government of Antigua and Barbuda says the Cancer Centre Eastern Caribbean project is back on track after “many delays.”

Construction and management contracts on the project were executed last weekend by OBM of Antigua, with site clearing for foundation works set to begin later this week.

Dr Arthur Porter, a co-principal with private sector principal Global Health Partners, was recently diagnosed with the disease and has reportedly suggested the transfer of his chairmanship of TCCEC to Dr Conville Brown, the project’s co-founder.

Professor Karol Sikora has agreed to replace Dr Porter as the project’s Interim Director of Radiation Oncology and managing director as a permanent replacement is sought.

In a statement, the government said Dr Brown “feels that the OECS Cancer Centre is bigger than any one individual or country, as it is meant to and will be privileged to serve the people of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States and the greater Caribbean Community.”
