Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuño has announced the signing of amendments to the territory’s Law 27 of Economic Incentives for the Film Industry, in a bid to promote more film production in the territory.

“In the past three years, we have promoted the film industry as never before, putting Puerto Rico on the map as a unique and attractive destination for film and television production,” he said.

Fortuño pointed to the current production of the movie “Runner, Runner,” which is currently filming in the territory and stars Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake and Gemma Arterton.

Under the previous incarnation of the law, incentives were limited to producers and executives of the film industry, however, and the new amendments expand the package of incentives to benefit artists and technical staff, the governor said.

The original law was signed in March 2011, and has led to at least 28 productions, according to the government and generating a reported $80 million in revenue.

A number of television series have also filmed on the island of late, including USA Network’s White Collar and HBO’s Eastbound and Down.
