A new wave of leisure travel is on the horizon — and an upstart carrier is now coming to the Caribbean, Caribbean Journal has learned. Breeze Airways, the upstart U.S. airline which aims at connecting underserved markets — has officially been certified as a U.S. Flag Carrier by the FAA — the first airline in more than a decade to earn that distinction.

The milestone opens the door to the carrier’s first international routes, with seasonal service to Cancun, Punta Cana and Montego Bay beginning this winter, subject to government approval. The airline is also opening a new crew base in Raleigh-Durham to support the expansion.

It’s a huge boost if you’re planning a Caribbean vacation from cities like Charleston, Norfolk and Providence.

“This is a huge milestone for Breeze, and one that our Team Members have been working tirelessly on for the last three years,” said David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze Airways, in a statement  “We’re excited to bring the same convenience and elevated experience they love about our domestic flights to three exciting new international destinations.”

Nonstop Service to the Caribbean and Mexico

Starting in early 2026, Breeze will offer direct seasonal service from six U.S. airports to three sun-soaked destinations: Cancun in Mexico, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Montego Bay in Jamaica.

Flights from Charleston, New Orleans, Norfolk and Providence will head for Cancun on Saturdays. Raleigh will get new twice-weekly flights to Montego Bay and Punta Cana, while Tampa travelers will see new Wednesday and Saturday service to Montego Bay. Introductory fares start as low as $99 one way, according to Breeze.

A New Player in Caribbean Vacation Travel

Breeze’s entry into the Caribbean market marks a new chapter for the carrier, which has built its reputation on nonstop connectivity from midsize cities that often lack direct leisure routes.

The move positions Breeze to compete in one of the region’s hottest travel markets, bringing new airlift to destinations that are seeing record-breaking visitor arrivals.

The airline’s flag carrier certification also gives it greater flexibility to expand internationally, paving the way for more Caribbean routes in future seasons. For travelers in cities like Charleston, Norfolk and Raleigh, it means an easier escape to warm beaches and turquoise waters — without the layovers.
