Grenada’s ruling NDC government held a rally Sunday after Prime Minister Tillman Thomas’ survival of a no-confidence motion brought by the opposition NNP last week.

The rally, which police said was attended by 2,000 people, was headed by Thomas.

“Many of you were apprehensive about your government,” he told the crowd. “However, I was never in doubt because I firmly believe that God is in full control. So today, we give thanks to the Almighty for taking us thus far.”

Thomas’ government has been in turmoil after the resignations of two cabinet members: Tourism Minister Peter David and Foreign Minister Karl Hood, in less than a month.

Hood resigned following the no-confidence vote, in which he abstained.

Thomas called the events of the week an “unwelcome distraction,” which attracted “must negative attention.”

While David was replaced by Dr George Vincent, Hood’s portfolio will be assumed by Thomas on is apparently an interim basis.

Thomas was joined by Ministers Denis Lett, Patrick Simmons, Alleyne Walker and Vincent.

The Prime Minister left following the meeting to attend the CARICOM- Mexico Summit in Barbados.
