The Dominican Republic will be home to a new Center for European Studies, following an agreement between the Directorate General of Multilateral Cooperation and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development.

The agreement, which was signed in the presence of Irene Horejs, the European Union’s representative in the Dominican Republic, aims to strengthen academic links between institutions in the country and provide an overview of Europe’s realities.

Among the subjects to be studied include the history of European ideas, European civilization, European institutions, EU rights and others, according to Marcos Herrera, director of GFDD.

The agreement provides that the costs for implementation and operation of the Centre for European Studies will be made with contributions from GFDD and other institutions.

According to Domingo Jimenez, CEO of DiGECOOM, the programme will include the creation of an area of research targeting officials, diplomats, legislators, entrepreneurs and NGOs.
