JetBlue Is Adding a New Dominican Republic Route for the Holidays
Punta Cana, without question. Santo Domingo, yeah. Puerto Plata, of course. You might have even heard of Miches. But few leisure travelers have ever thought about a trip to Santiago de los Caballeros — a place that has quietly been one of the fastest-growing cities in the Dominican Republic, itself the most popular place to visit in the Caribbean.
In the last few years, more and more carriers have been launching flights to Santiago, and now there’s another one: JetBlue, which is planning to kick off daily flights for a short holiday season beginning this winter.
On Dec. 13, JetBlue will launch a brief seasonal route between Fort Lauderdale and Santiago, operating once every day for more than a month.
The route will elapse on Jan. 19, according to the company, although that could change depending on demand.
Either way, it’s a sign of the growing import of Santiago to the broader tourism fortunes of the Dominican Republic (the destination welcomed its first Marriott late last year).
If you’re planning a trip, fares are starting at $139, according to JetBlue.
