Marriott Just Opened Its Second Hotel in Guyana With a New Courtyard
Guyana is hotter than ever, and now the country just added a major new branded hotel, Caribbean Journal has learned.
Guyana has welcomed its second Marriott property with the debut of the Courtyard Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Guyana, the country’s first international airport hotel.
The US$20 million Courtyard, located at Timehri within walking distance of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, has officially opened its doors.
The six-story property features 150 rooms, including five executive suites, and is designed to cater to airline crew, diplomats, business travelers and transit guests. The opening brings nearly 100 new jobs to the local economy, with 99 percent of the staff made up of Guyanese nationals.
The Courtyard by Marriott was built by local construction company Cardinal Investments Inc on 2.5 acres of government-leased land.
Managing Director Roy Bassoo Snr, whose family has long been involved in Guyana’s hospitality industry, called the opening a reflection of long-term confidence.
Bassoo also announced plans to develop a 130-room Staybridge Suites Hotel along the Heroes Highway in 2026 as well.
The Courtyard is the second Marriott property in Guyana, joining the flagship Guyana Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, which opened back in 2015.
Courtyard has been one of Marriott’s fastest-growing brands in the Caribbean in recent years.
The opening comes as the country experiences an unprecedented economic boom fueled by its offshore energy discoveries. That growth is spurring a surge in hotel investment — and new flights — transforming Guyana into one of the Caribbean’s fastest-emerging hospitality markets.
