The Bahamas’ Governor’s Harbour Airport in Eleuthera Just Got a Makeover

The Bahamian island of Eleuthera actually has three airports, one in its north, one in the middle, and another to the south.
They’re all growing fast — and now the airport terminal in Governor’s Harbour has gotten a makeover.
Governor’s Harbour Airport has unveiled its newly renovated terminal, part of a broader push to enhance infrastructure as Eleuthera attracts more visitors.
The Bahamas’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation Chester Cooper toured the refreshed terminal alongside Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs Clay Sweeting, Deputy Director General of MOTIA and Director of Aviation Kenneth Romer, and other government officials this week.
The new-look terminal is designed to improve the passenger experience and support the island’s growing popularity as a destination. Governor’s Harbour has become an increasingly important gateway for travelers heading to Eleuthera’s beaches, boutique resorts, and historic settlements.
It’s quietly become one of the fastest-growing destinations in The Bahamas, including new service from American Airlines that launched in 2024.
Governor’s Harbour itself is one of the oldest communities in The Bahamas, dating back to the late 18th century, with a famous harborfront that speaks to the island’s long history. Today, it blends that heritage with a relaxed, cosmopolitan vibe, anchored by beachside favorites like Tippy’s restaurant and the celebrated French Leave Resort, among others. The area’s pink-sand beaches are some of the most famous in the region, drawing visitors from around the world.
The airport upgrades are the latest step in a series of Family Island improvements aimed at meeting rising tourism demand across The Bahamas — ensuring that gateways like Governor’s Harbour are ready to handle the steady growth of arrivals.
