JetBlue Is Cutting Its Puerto Rico-Cancun Route

By: Alexander Britell - July 13, 2025 - 5:48 pm

JetBlue is cutting one of its routes within the Caribbean late next month, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The carrier’s service between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Cancun is flying its last frequency on Aug. 23, according to JetBlue’s website.

The flight had been operating once each week on Saturdays; it had first launched back in October of last year, initially with three weekly flights.

For a time, it mirrored a similar route launched by Frontier Airlines out of San Juan, a city where that airline has been embarking on major growth within the Caribbean Basin.

Given the ease with which travelers from the mainland US can reach Cancun — practically from every major airport in America — the decision likely says more about demand within the local market in Puerto Rico rather than any broader travel trends. That makes sense, given that most travelers typically aren’t trying to reach Cancun by first stopping over in San Juan.

Having said that, Cancun has been having a rocky, up-and-down year for passenger traffic (according to data from ASUR, which manages Cancun International Airport) as well.

So where does JetBlue fly within the Caribbean right now? The carrier flies out of San Juan to both St Croix and St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.

Still trying to sneak in one last flight from Puerto Rico to Cancun before the route shuts down? Prices for the three hour and 15-minute flight are about $483 right now, according to Google Flights.
