This Caribbean Luxury Resort Has a Turtle Season — And You Can Join the Mission

By: Guy Britton - June 1, 2025 - 8:00 pm

It begins with a story — one told in tracks on the sand and whispered through the waves.

On Nevis, they return. Hawksbill, Green, and Leatherback turtles, critically endangered, rise from the sea in the dead of night to lay the future into the earth. They’ve been doing it for millennia. And for seven weeks this summer, you can walk alongside them.

From July through August, the Four Seasons Resort Nevis invites guests to do more than just witness nature — it invites them to help protect it. Sea Turtle Conservation Season is not a resort activity. It’s a living mission.

It starts with knowledge. A gathering at the Crowned Monkey Rum Bar for “Turtle Talk,” an open forum led by the Sea Turtle Conservancy and the Nevis Turtle Group. It’s where science meets storytelling — where you begin to understand the stakes, the danger these creatures face, and what it means for them to return here, to this beach.

A newly-tagged turtle heads back to the Caribbean Sea.

Then, just past twilight, the real encounter begins.

At 8:30PM, you follow the conservation team on a Night Walk along one of Nevis’ beautiful beaches. It’s dark — on purpose. No flashlights. No loud voices. Just the stars and the moon, and the possibility of watching a female sea turtle labor her way onto the sand, dig her nest, and begin the ancient ritual of laying her eggs. You don’t touch. You don’t intrude. You simply bear witness — and once you do, you’ll never see the ocean the same way again.

But this isn’t just about watching. It’s about giving back.

It’s a rare opportunity to learn about the creatures.

On select mornings — including July 9th and 10th — the experience flips: it’s release time. At 8:30AM, nesting sea turtles are tagged for tracking, then are brought to the shoreline at Pinney’s Beach. The Sea Turtle Conservancy will spend years following their movements to learn more about this mysterious, wonderful creature.

You’ll stand in the early light as they shuffle toward the sea. It’s emotional. It’s unforgettable.

Families aren’t left out. The second week of July, there’s a Sea Turtle Kids Camp that gives younger guests a way to engage with conservation on their own terms — with hands-on learning, exploration, and a sense of purpose that might just last a lifetime.

And of course, this is Nevis — so between it all, there’s time for private cabanas, sailing the coast on a catamaran, or a starlit movie night at Kids For All Seasons. But the turtles are the reason you’re here. They are the soul of this season.

Pricing starts at $800 per person — an investment not just in luxury, but in legacy.

Because this isn’t a vacation. It’s a chapter in a larger story — one of survival, of return, and of the sacred responsibility we all share to protect what’s left.
