Former Jamaican Prime Minister and current Leader of the Opposition Andrew Holness visited St Kitts and Nevis this weekend for a speech to the opposition People’s Action Movement.

Holness, who arrived on Friday and departed on Sunday, gave a 20-minute feature address at the PAM’s convention on Sunday afternoon.

The leader, whose Jamaica Labour Party was defeated by the People’s National Party in late December, reportedly praised the country’s current infrastructural development.

In a post on social media, he said St Kitts and Nevis faced many of the same problems as Jamaica: high debt, youth engagement and gangs.

He also called St Kitts’ soon-to-be-implemented debt-for-land-swap deal “interesting.”

Holness also met with members of the Jamaican community living in St Kitts and Nevis.

St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas and the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party have led the country since 1995.
