Travelers Keep Flocking to the Dominican Republic

By: Caitlin Sullivan - February 12, 2025 - 1:22 pm

After breaking the country’s all-time record for tourism last year, the Dominican Republic just keeps seeing more and more visitor growth.

The latest total? 1,155,484 visitors in January, an 8 percent jump over January 2024, and a whopping 53 percent over the pre-pandemic total that month in 2019.

That included just under 760,000 visitors by air, along with nearly 400,000 cruise passengers.

The US continued to send the most arrivals, with about 36 percent of all visitors to the country, with Canada coming in at 25 percent.

Punta Cana, the country’s tourism epicenter, accounted for about 63 percent of all tourists last month, according to Dominican Republic Tourism Minister David Collado.

Hotel occupancy was a sizzling 82 percent, far above the Caribbean average, last month, with most visitors staying for about nine days in total.
