Following the lead of similar Chinese projects in Guyana and Antigua, the government of Taiwan presented 2,000 laptops to St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas for distribution to high school students.

“I implore the students to wisely and carefully use these tools, these laptop computers as sharpened weapons of learning and skills development,” said Taiwanese Ambassador to St Kitts and Nevis Miguel Tsao. “It will put the positive spin in your study and learning like the two-edged sword.”

Tsao said St Kitts and Nevis’ path to development lies in the investment and development of education.

The two countries have collaborated on a number of projects in the last year, including a solar panel pilot project and the design of a planned agro-tourism park in St Kitts.

In recent months, the Chinese government has funded laptop distribution projects, both Guyana’s One Laptop Per Family initiative and Antigua’s One Laptop Per Child programme.
