The British Virgin Islands’ Legendary Peter Island Resort Is Reopening

By: Alexander Britell - January 17, 2024

It has been almost seven years since one of the Caribbean’s most celebrated private-island destinations was shuttered by Hurricane Irma. Now, the Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands is making its triumphant return.

This year, Peter Island will officially reopen, a significant boon for the BVI and the broader Caribbean private-island landscape.

The resort is now taking bookings for stays beginning Oct. 3, 2024, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Peter Island will return with 52 room, suite and villa accommodations. In a major change, all of the accommodations will be set on the beach, just septs from the water along Deadman’s Beach.

“After over six years, we are excited to raise the curtain on Peter Island Resort’s transformation to a new level of luxury,” said David Van Andel, President of Peter Island Resort. “Our evolved and re-imagined private island hideaway will welcome guests with the same warm, Caribbean hospitality, casual elegance and natural tropical wonders that have captivated visitors for decades. For generations we have been honored stewards of Peter Island and we look forward to sharing our revitalized Caribbean treasure once again in 2024.”

The resort has also added an infinity pool overlooking Deadman’s Beach.

Peter Island is also rebuilding its famous Falcons Nest villa, while the Hawks Nest Villa is being upgraded.

So what else is new at the new-look Peter Island?

The resort is adding event facilities that will be able to accommodate groups of up to 150 people, along with a new 3,000-square-foot conference center.

The resort’s spa is being upgraded and redesigned, with seven treatment rooms, a fitness center and a saltwater pool, among other touches.

The Peter Island Yacht Club will also be back, with new capacity for super yachts of up to 200 feet in Sprat Bay Harbor.

It will be a destination in its own right, with a special pool, an eatery called the Drunken Pelican and a boutique, along with pickleball, bocce and basketball courts.

For yachters, Peter Island also announced it would be adding mooring balls in White Bay, Sprat Bay, Deadman’s Bay, Key Bay and Little Harbour.
