Marriott Is Opening an All-Inclusive in Isla Mujeres, Mexico

By: Alexander Britell - December 8, 2023

In the shadow of one of the hemisphere’s most popular travel destinations, the tiny Caribbean island of Isla Mujeres has long been something of a closely-guarded secret for travelers.

But the charming little island a short boat ride from Cancun has been receiving new levels of attention on the travel radar, with top hotel brands starting to enter the market.

That began with Hyatt’s Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets, which opened a 125-room property on the island earlier this year.

Now, another big brand is coming to the island, with Marriott opening a new all-inclusive, adults-only resort in Isla Mujeres in 2024.

It’s another major-branded resort on the island.

It’s called Almare, and it will be part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, joining one other Luxury Collection all-inclusive in the region: the Sanctuary Cap Cana resort in the Dominican Republic.

So what will the 105-room Almare be like?

The dining program includes three eateries: Seasalt, a 360-degree-ocean-view restaurant with Mexican-European fusion cuisine; BOGA, an eatery focused on “local ingredients and indigenous cooking methods” and Botanik, a restaurant and pool bar.

Marriott is opening its first resort in Isla Mujeres.

There will also be a destination spa with all manner of treatment options, from body exfoliation to couples’ treatments to massage lessons.

Marriott says the resort is located on the western coast and southern half of the island.

It’s part of a new all-inclusive push for Marriott in the Mexican Caribbean that includes a pair of new all-inclusive resorts just across from Isla Mujeres in Costa Mujeres: the JW Marriott and W Costa Mujeres, both of which will be all-inclusive and both of which will be opening their doors in 2026, according to the company.

If you’re looking to visit Isla Mujeres but with a more intimate feel, the island has a number of top small hotels, including Isla Mujeres’ premier boutiqe hotel, the Coco B Isla resort
