It’s Getting Even Easier to Fly to the Island of Dominica

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - September 21, 2023

Waterfalls, hiking trails, volcanoes, boiling lakes. There aren’t any islands quite like Dominica, which has been increasingly on the radar of in-the-know travelers seeking out a different kind of Caribbean getaway.

And now it’s getting even easier to fly to the island.

First, American Airlines launched its first-ever nonstop service between Miami and Dominica, a route that’s also the only international flight between the United States and Dominica.

Now, regional carrier Silver Airways has significantly ramped up its service to the island out of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Silver is expanding in the Caribbean with more service, thanks to a growing fleet of ATRs.

Silver is now operating flights between San Juan and Dominica six days per week, opening up the island to Silver’s broad network of codeshare partners including United, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, all of which fly to San Juan from cities across the United States.

It’s a significant boost for the island, which has long struggled with airlift challenges thanks to a tiny runway and airport.

It’s also a boon for the island’s growing luxury hotel sector, centered around the world-famous Secret Bay luxury resort.

Secret Bay, a collection of villas on a clifftop overlooking one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, is also expanding, with plans to debut more new villas in November

Now, travelers can fly to the island and savor a destination that bills itself as the “Nature Island,” a moniker you’ll understand the moment you land.
