Marriott Is Opening Its First Caribbean Edition Hotel

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - September 17, 2023

It’s one of the hottest hotel brands in the world: EDITION, the boutique-style hotel portfolio conceived by legendary hotelier Ian Schrager that’s part of Marriott.

While there are 15 Edition properties around the world, though, there hasn’t yet been one in the Caribbean. Until now.

In the next few months, Marriott will be debuting its first-ever Edition in the Caribbean, with the new Riviera Maya Edition at Kanai.

The new Mexican Caribbean resort is already taking bookings for December, and may be opening even earlier than that.

It will be part of the luxe Kanai development, one that is already home to a new 143-room St. Regis resort that opened this past winter. Kanai is also home to Etereo, Riviera Maya, a luxury resort that is part of the Auberge Resorts Collection. Etereo was the first hotel to open in Kanai when it debuted back in in 2021.

Etereo, Riviera Maya, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, is also part of the Kanai development.

The new beachfront Edition will have 182 rooms and suites, along with five dining concepts, a pool bar, a beach club and a large outdoor event deck.

That’s along with a fitness center and a pool.

The rooms range from standard “deluxe” rooms to Edition Suites and the property’s signature accommodation, the five-bedroom penthouse suite called the “Sky Villa.”

Marriott has been expanding significantly in the Caribbean since the pandemic, both with its new all-inclusive collection (All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy) and a growing luxury pipeline that includes new St Regis resorts like Kanai (and in Cap Cana) and new W and Ritz-Carltons in the works, too.
