Silver Airways Launching Flights to Antigua, Dominican Republic

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - August 20, 2023

There’s a new way to travel to one of the most sought-after island destinations in the wider Caribbean: thw twin-island hotspot of Antigua and Barbuda.

Fast-expanding carrier Silver Airways has announced plans to launch a new route between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Antigua, opening up the island to the fast network of flights between the mainland United States and San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.

Antigua has beome one of the biggest tourism success stories in the Caribbean since the pandemic, cementing its position as one of the hottest places to visit in the region, from its unrivaled all-inclusive product to a rarefied collection of luxury resorts. That includes popular resorts like Hammock Cove, Galley Bay, Hermitage Bay, Cocobay and Curtain Bluff, among others.

The new San Juan-Antigua route will kick off on Nov. 16, with fares starting as low as $136 one-way.

The flights will be operating four times each week, with service on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Silver is also adding a new route between San Juan and the popular destination of La Romana in the Dominican Republic, the home of the Dominican Republic’s number one resort, the Casa de Campo Resort and Villas (home to the top golf course in the Caribbean, Pete Dye’s Teeth of the Dog).

The San Juan-La Romana route will also launch on Nov. 16, with flights kicking off as low as $136 one-way according to the company.

That route will also operate on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. It complements another newly-launched route to La Romana — local carrier RED Air’s new nonstop flights between Miami and La Romana. (The airport itself is part of the Casa de Campo campus).

With continued high flight prices to much of the Caribbean, flying a two-segment flight that includes Silver Airways could shave hundreds of dollars off rates to both destinations.
