Bonaire Keeps Topping Pre-Pandemic Tourism Levels

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - August 16, 2023

The Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire keeps outpacing its pre-pandemic tourism levels, according to new data from Tourism Corporation Bonaire.

The island welcomed 14,133 stayover visitors in July, an 8 percent increase compared to the same period in 2019, when Bonaire brought in 13,000 visitors.

That reflects what officials called the “continuous balanced growth and attractiveness of Bonaire as a prime travel destination.”

It built off the momentum from the month of June, when Bonaire Rum Week and the new Bonaire Yoga and Wellness Festival brought large-scale attention to the island.

Dutch visitors continue to dominate arrivals to the island, accounting for 48 percent of all travelers; the United States market contributed 3,488 visitors, about 25 percent of the total.

That included a notable increase in first-time visitors to the island, making up around 43 percent of all arrivals for the month.

Bonaire also received 16,442 cruise passenger arrivals in July, served by four different cruise lines.
