Negril, Jamaica’s Hippest Beach Hotel Just Got Bigger

By: Alexander Britell - January 25, 2023

Since it opened its doors in 2018, the boutique Skylark Negril in Jamaica has been the new capital of cool in Jamaica’s quintessential beach town.

From a privileged perch on Seven Mile Beach to the only Caribbean outpost of New York’s Miss Lily’s, Skylark is big on Jamaican culture and beach vibes.

And it just got bigger.

Skylark Negril has unveiled the results of an expansion project that means the resort now has 40 rooms, all with the property’s signature tropical color palette and its sleek retro aesthetic.

All of the 12 new rooms feature more than 400 square feet of living space, along with locally-crafted four-poster beds and ocean views.

The expansion includes 11 new balcony studios and one new ocean-view studio.

It’s an “exciting expansion,” owner Paul Salmon tells Caribbean Journal.

But that’s not all. Skylark has also added a new beachfront lounge and a games room at Miss Lily’s.

The new lounge, designed by hotel partner Serge Becker, includes six new daybeds and Noelie rattan lounge chairs. That’s along with a new game room with a foosball table, backgammon tables and oversized chess, among other touches.

On the wellness side, Skylark has debuted a unique kind of concept: they call it a “rooftop bathhouse.” Skylark has added two bathhouses, each with two ocean-view soaking tubs for therapeutic bathing rituals and aromatherapy blends. Each bathhouse comes with a couples massage space and a lounge area for a tea ceremony.

The treatments were made famous by Skylark’s sister property, Rockhouse, on the cliffs of Negril, another leading Jamaica hotel.

It all means that Skylark is bigger and better than ever, maintaining its intimate, timeless style and deep sense of place.
