Jamaica’s Legendary Half Moon Resort Is Reopening Next Month

Half Moon is coming back soon.

It’s the signature luxury resort in Jamaica. And it’s making a quick comeback, Caribbean Journal has learned.

One week after the passage of Hurricane Melissa, Half Moon Jamaica has announced plans to reopen on Dec. 15, 2025, as the resort and the wider island continue recovery efforts.

The legendary Montego Bay property confirmed that the team that sheltered in place during the storm are safe. “Their strength and spirit remind us of what truly endures: community, care, and connection,” the resort said in a statement.

The resort will begin a phased reopening, prioritizing existing reservations and welcoming guests first to Eclipse at Half Moon and the recently renovated Villas at Half Moon, which just opened earlier this year with a slate of state-of-the-art garden and ocean retreats. We recently stayed at two of them, and they’re spectacular.

Half Moon said its immediate focus is supporting its more than 800 team members, many of whom suffered damage to their homes or property during the hurricane.

The resort has launched a relief fund, the Half Moon Spirit Fund, to assist affected employees and their families.

Local infrastructure around Montego Bay sustained damage, and the Dec. 15 reopening date aligns with the Jamaican government’s timeline for the full reopening of the country’s tourism sector.

Half Moon said it will continue to update guests on its recovery and reopening progress through its website and social media channels. Guests with existing reservations are being contacted directly, and deposits can be applied to future stays through Dec. 20, 2026.
