Caribbean Airlines' CEO has resigned.

Garvin Medera has resigned as Chief Executive Officer of Caribbean Airlines, the company’s Board of Directors announced.

In a statement, the airline said Medera’s departure marks a significant leadership transition for the carrier, which continues to operate its full schedule with no impact to passengers or partners.

Chief Operating Officer Nirmala Ramai has been appointed Acting CEO while the Board oversees the transition.

Medera, who led the airline through one of the most turbulent periods in its history, including the global travel shutdown and its aftermath, thanked employees for their resilience and dedication.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all the employees of Caribbean Airlines who have done such a fantastic job over the past few years, facing some very difficult challenges and being their best, time and again, for each other and our passengers,” he said in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal.

The Board emphasized that the leadership change comes at a “pivotal time” for the company, with an increased focus on operational stability, efficiency and modernization.

Among the areas identified for near-term attention are customer service enhancements, governance reviews, and the development of a long-term growth strategy.

The airline also reaffirmed its commitment to developing talent from within the organization before seeking external candidates, signaling that Ramai’s appointment may extend while the Board considers its next steps.

Caribbean Airlines said it remains committed to serving the region with “pride, reliability and a steadfast commitment to safety” as the leadership transition unfolds.
