The sandbars. The cays. The pigs. Exuma is one of the region’s great bucket-list destinations, from its neon-blue water to its world-class beach bars.

And the archipelago is about to get another new route from the United States, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Beginning in November, fast-growing carrier Aztec Airways is adding a new nonstop route between Fort Lauderdale and Georgetown in Exuma.

The new service will be running twice per week, according to The Bahamas’ Ministry of Tourism.

It’s one of a growing number of routes by smaller carriers to The Bahamas announced in the last few months, including the new routes set to launch by Tradewind Aviation to places like Abaco and Nassau.

Aztec has recently added routes to North Eleuthera, Governor’s Harbour in Eleuthera nd Marsh Harbour, Abaco.

“By deepening our partnerships with carriers like Aztec Airways, we are ensuring that the benefits of tourism are felt across our islands, supporting both community development and the long-term competitiveness of The Bahamas,” said Bahamas Tourism Minister Chester Cooper.

The airline’s “reliable and comfortable service, combined with convenient scheduling and attentive are, will make travel to the Exumas simpler and more enjoyable, allowing visitors to start their vacation the moment they step on board,” said Latia Duncombe, The Bahamas’ Director General of Tourism.
