Sun Country Airlines Is Adding More Flights to This Beach-Filled Caribbean Island

The beach-filled Caribbean island is getting even easier to visit.

The sands of Magens Bay. The streets of Charlotte Amalie. The sounds of Red Hook. We love so much about the island of St Thomas, an island that just keeps getting better (and is filled with some of the best beaches in the whole Caribbean).

What we also love is how easy it is to fly there — with abundant airlift from so many cities across the United States, now with more flights on the way.

Sun Country Airlines is expanding its flights from Minneapolis to St Thomas’ Cyril E King Airport beginning this winter. The jump? An extra flight each week, running through the winter and spring of 2026.

The newly-broadened service will be running on Saturday and Sundays, with the expansion taking effect on Dec. 13 and operating through April 12, 2026.

It’s another boost for one of the handful of Caribbean islands you can visit without needing to bring along your passport.

The expansion is a “clear indicator of the U.S. Virgin Islands’ growing popularity as a preferred Caribbean destination,” US Virgin Islands Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte told Caribbean Journal. “Increasing connectivity from the Midwest continues to be a top priority, and we look forward to welcoming even more visitors from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area as we build on this strong partnership.”

Sun Country has been steadily growing its Caribbean network out of Minneapolis-St Paul in recent years, as surging Caribbean demand has opened up new routes across much of the American Midwest.

So what about prices? You can book Minneapolis-St Thomas flights for $461.71 roundtrip on Sun Country, according to our analysis on the carrier’s website.

Are you heading to St Thomas? The island has a growing slate of great hotels, from the dual-resort complex at Frenchman’s’ Reef that’s back and better than ever — we particularly like the Buoy Haus resort right on the beach ($536 per night) —  to new additions like the charming, boutique Pink Palm in the heart of Charlotte Amalie ($305 per night).
