Why Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Dominica, Guyana, Saint-Martin, and Turks and Caicos Tourism Officials Are Heading to Brazil

By: Guy Britton - April 2, 2025 - 4:39 pm

It’s an increasingly important market for the Caribbean: South America, the continent on the southern coastline of the Caribbean Sea, and one that continues to send more travelers to its destinations.

In recent years, countries like Colombia, Brazil and Argentina have contributed an increasingly large share of the tourism pie in the region.

Now, the Caribbean is sending a high-profile delegation of tourism destinations to the upcoming World Travel Market Latin America conference in Brazil in a bit to court new visitors from the continent.

This year, the Caribbean Tourism Organization is setting up a Caribbean Pavilion at the show, one that will include reps from Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Dominica, Guyana, Saint-Martin, and Turks & Caicos, among other destinations.

This year’s WTM Latin America is being held in São Paulo, running April 14-16.

“CTO is excited to participate in WTM Latin America to engage with our partners in this growing market,” said Dona Regis-Prosper, Secretary General & CEO of CTO. “With increasing air connectivity and growing interest in the Caribbean from Latin American travelers, this event provides an invaluable platform for our member countries to showcase their distinct attractions, investment opportunities, and tourism developments.”

WTM, the sister show of the popular one in London each November, is one of the top travel trade shows in the region.

The hope, the CTO told Caribbean Journal, is to “reinforce its mission of sustainable tourism development, highlighting regional initiatives that promote responsible travel, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation.”
