Avelo Just Started Two New Nonstop Routes to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic

By: Alexander Britell - March 5, 2025 - 11:37 am

There are quite a few reasons why the Dominican Republic is the most popular destination in the Caribbean, at least by visitor volume, and much of it has to do with Punta Cana. The tourism hotspot on the East Coast of the Dominican Republic has more all-inclusive resorts in one place than anywhere else in the Caribbean, and that’s just the beginning, from the sprawling beaches to the golf to the shopping.

But the story of Punta Cana really began with its airport, the famous thatched-roof terminal that has grown into a Caribbean powerhouse, and continues to see new flights from all over the United States.

The latest? A pair of new routes from fast-growing carrier Avelo Airlines, which is now flying from both Raleigh-Durham and Hartford, Conn, following a recent launch of both flights.

The Raleigh-Durham-Punta Cana route is running on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the Hartford-Punta Cana flight is running on Mondays and Fridays.

Avelo has been rapidly expanding its Caribbean network, particularly out of the Connecticut market, with new routes from both Hartford and New Haven.

It’s a “significant milestone” for Avelo, founder Andrew Levy said in a statement obtained by Caribbean Journal.

So what about fares? You can book fares in March for about $405.79 roundtrip, according to Avelo’s website.

What about where to stay? We’ve made no secret of our affection for the Lopesan Costa Bavaro, one of the newest resorts in Punta Cana, where we’ve stayed multiple times and thoroughly enjoyed it; it’s the rare resort that’s great for both adults (make sure you go for a swim-up room) and for families (there’s an on-site waterpark, among other kid-friendly amenities). Rooms from $573 at Lopesan Costa Bavaro’s website. You can also check out our guide to the best all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana.
