Bahamas Looking to Double Hotel Rooms in Next Decade

By: Guy Britton - February 17, 2025 - 8:54 pm

The Bahamas is looking to double its hotel inventory over the next 10 years, according to Tourism Minister Chester Cooper.

The country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister, who was speaking during the Routes Americas conference, pointed to the country’s existing stock of 15,000 hotel rooms and its room for growth.

“I have said I would like to see that number double over the next 10 years,” Cooper said. “I think that’s achievable. Every resort will contribute toward achieving that goal. Resorts that are not fully operational now will come on stream, but certainly, takes time to develop a resort. We won’t achieve an additional 10,000 to 15,000 rooms immediately, but over time, this has to be the sustained strategy.”

It’s not just New Providence, though. The Bahamas is looking to broaden development across its 16 main island destinations — with a $300 million program currently redeveloping 14 different airpots across the Out Islands of Teh Bahamas.
