These Two New Dominican Republic All-Inclusive Resorts Now Have an Opening Date
Miches. It’s a lush, uncrowded corner of the Dominican Republic where the mountains and the forest come right up against the beach. And in the last few years, it’s been the epicenter of new hotel growth in the country, with just about every major brand having some kind of presence or plans. That includes the just-debuted Sunrise Miches, which is part of the Marriott portfolio.
Next year, another big all-inclusive player is entering the Miches market: Hyatt, which is not opening one but two branded all-inclusive resorts: the Secrets Playa Esmeralda and the Dreams Playa Esmeralda, both of which now have an opening date, Caribbean Journal has learned.
Both properties will welcome their first guests on April 1, 2025, as confirmed by Hyatt, part of a growing pipeline in Miches that also includes the soon-to-open Zemi Miches, which is part of Hilton’s Curio Collection and opening on March 15.
So what do you need to know?
Well, Dreams is Hyatt’s top family-friendly all-inclusive brand. That means you get amenities like a waterpark, an “Explorer’s Club” for kids, and about nine different food concepts.
The adults-only Secrets is going to be for honeymooners, couples, and those looking for a more exclusive feel. Yes, there’s a signature Secrets Spa, a full slate of events and programming and a pool scene. Secrets are all abut having fun and there’s often a good spirit of camaraderie among the guests. There will be seven eateries at the Secrets and, most importantly, a Preferred Club if you want the elevated room category, private check in and exclusive lounge. It’s usually worth the splurge.
So what about prices?
At the 500-suite Secrets resort, you’re looking at about $890 per night for a junior suite with a “tropical view.” There are swim-out rooms, but the price goes up to about $1,156 per night for a junior suite with pool access.
At the Dreams Playa Esmeralda, it’s less. Prices start at about $680 per night, and about $894 per night for a standard swim-out room.
Based on our stays at Dreams and Secrets resorts, even though Dreams tend to be family friendly, they’re usually still relatively quiet and laid-back. Unless you really only want the only other guests to be adults, the Dreams will be a better value, particularly for the swim-out option.
What about getting to Miches?
The best way is to fly to either Punta Cana, which is about an hour and a half. For cheap options, head to Google Flights.
