The Dominican Republic has been making regional aviation a priority in the last few years, actively encouraging the creation of new local airlines through tax breaks and other incentives.

That includes fast-growing Arajet, which launched operations in in 2022 (as we first reported) and continues to grow its Caribbean footprint. Until now, its operations have been based in Santo Domingo — but that just changed with the addition of a new second hub in the country’s tourism hub of Punta Cana.

Most importantly, the carrier just launched new flights from Canada to Punta Cana, including service from both Montreal and Toronto. It’s not a surprise given the enduring importance of the Canadian market to the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry.

“For Arajet, adding Punta Cana as a second hub is a firm commitment to continue democratizing the skies and connecting the continent from Canada to Argentina at the best market prices with world-class service,” Víctor Pacheco, CEO and Founder of Arajet, told Caribbean Journal.

So what are the new Caribbean flights?

The new service includes flights between both Montreal and Toronto and Punta Cana.

Arajet also launched service to Kingston, Jamaica and Cancun, Mexico.

The company says it is transporting more than 7 percent of all passengers to the Dominican Republic so far this year.

As an example, the Toronto-Punta Cana route will cost you about $363.19 roundtrip, according to Arajet’s website.
