Royal Caribbean Is Adding a New Private Cruise Destination in Mexico
If Royal Caribbean keeps adding destinations like this, they may end up with a perfect week. The cruise giant has announced the expansion of its “Perfect Day” brand with what will be a new private destination on the Caribbean coast of Mexico.
It’s called Perfect Day Mexico, and it will join the company’s existing Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.
While it will not be a private island as such, it will be a fully private destination in the town of Mahahual, with signatures like a waterpark, multiple pools, eateries, lounges and live music, among other amenities.
It’s part of what Royal Caribbean is now calling the “Perfect Day Collection,” according to a statement from president and CEO Jason Liberty obtained by Caribbean Journal.

The first Perfect Day, a $250 million project, first opened in the Berry Islands chain of The Bahamas back in 2019, and it’s proven to be a massive hit for the brand (and even now receives calls from Royal Caribbean’s sister brand, Celebrity.)
Royal actually has another private destination in Mexico in development, with plans for a Royal Beach Club on Cozumel. That one is slated to open in 2026.
The “Royal Beach Club” is another expanding franchise for Royal, which is also developing one on Paradise Island in The Bahamas.
All of this growth is not a surprise if you’ve been following the cruise industry. While pandemic presented the biggest threat to cruising in history, cruises have actually never been more popular. In the years since cruising reopened, demand continues to surge, both for traditional large cruises and, increasingly, small-ship and luxury cruises. The latter has seen more brands enter the market, including traditionally land-based resort brands like Ritz-Carlton (which already has two ultra-luxe small ships sailing the Caribbean) and Four Seasons, which is planning to debut next year.
As for Royal Caribbean, it remains the global leader, with a growing portfolio, particularly in the all-important Caribbean region. You can learn more in our guide to the company’s cruise ships.
So when is Perfect Day Mexico opening? The company says 2027. Given typical cruise booking windows, it will be likely be another year or so before you can start booking an itinerary that includes it.
