American Airlines Is Adding Two Nonstop Routes to St Vincent and the Grenadines

By: Alexander Britell - June 19, 2024 - 6:15 pm

There’s something you feel when you arrive on the tiny ferry from Union Island to the Palm Island resort in the Grenadines. Like you’ve discovered something, uncovered something. For a few days, or a week, this little slice of the Grenadines is your own beach-filled, secluded Caribbean dream.

For decades, quite a few corners of the Grenadines have engendered this feeling, in large part due to their relative inaccessibility.

It wasn’t until 2017 that the “main” island of St Vincent got its first-ever international airport. A year later, the island finally had its first-ever nonstop flights from the United States.

With this spring’s debut of the new Sandals Saint Vincent, major airline have been significantly ramping up flights to St Vincent and the Grenadines as demand surges.

And American Airlines is adding two crucial new routes to the island later this year, from all-important markets: New York and Charlotte.

Beginning Dec. 7, American Airlines will be operating its first-ever nonstop service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and St Vincent’s Argyle International Airport.

The flight will be operating once weekly on Saturdays, although if the last few months are any indication that number will go up considerably.

The same is true for the Charlotte-St Vincent flights, which will also kick off Dec. 7 and run once-weekly on Saturdays.

The launch of the new routes comes as JetBlue announced plans of its own for New York-St Vincent flights. That service is launching on Oct. 9.

American already operates flights between Miami and St Vincent.

The new routes put the spotlight on one of the Caribbean’s still-untapped, under-the-radar destinations, reminding travelers of the world-class resorts that populate the destination.

That includes the aforementioned Palm Island, arguably the top all-inclusive private island resort in the Caribbean, and the new Sandals Saint Vincent, which includes the only overwater bungalows in the Southern Caribbean.

It means that now you can finally come to places like Palm Island and discover them for yourself.
