American Airlines is adding more flights to the British Virgin Islands, in a sign of continued growth in demand for its new Miami-Tortola route.

The carrier is expanding to three peak-day flights between Miami and Tortola from Dec. 20-Jan. 7, in time for the busiest weeks of the winter travel season.

American Airlines is also adding a third peak-day flight on Saturdays, following its recently-announced expansion to two daly flights.

American kicked off its first nonstop flights from the United States to Tortola in the modern era in June, a route that has seen surging demand right from the outset.

The new route is part of a concerted effort by American to connect routes not served by flights from the mainland United States.

That included new flight launches to both Anguilla and Dominica, routes that were both the first of their kind from the United States.
