Statia Kicks Off the Dutch Caribbean’s Hottest Summer Carnival

The island of Statia has kicked off the Dutch Caribbean’s hottest summer carnival. 

Statia Carnival, the “Golden Rock Mas,” began July 13th with the opening of carnival, with events planned through July 24. 

That ranges from the Fusion-Bouyon night on July 14 to a calypso showcase on July 16 to the “Little Miss Statia Pageant” on July 17.

Other events include a Jouvert/braekfast celebration on July 22 (followed by the “Golden Rock Explosion” party that evening; and a lightning parade on July 24. 

It’s a vibrant, bustling party that draws partygoers from The Netherlands, the US and around the wider Caribbean. 

“Carnival is back in full swing on Statia, and we welcome it,” said Charles Lindo, director of tourism for the island of Statia. “Revelers are lining up to enjoy a full jam-packed program. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Carnival 2023.”
