Another European airline launching new service to the Dominican Republic, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Swiss-based airline Edelweiss is launching a new route between Zurich and Puerto Plata.

The new service will launch this summer, according to Dominican Republic Tourism Minister David Collado.

It was announced on the sidelines of the recent ITB tourism conference in Berlin, Germany.

The route will help compensate for Air France’s decision to drop its route between Paris and Puerto Plata, Collado said.

The announcement comes as it was revealed that fellow European carrier Condor was planning to add more flights to the Dominican Republic this summer as well.

The new routes help bolster what will likely be a banner year for tourism in the Dominican Republic, which is already off to a blazing start.
