At This New Luxury Caribbean Resort, Every Room Has a Pool

By: Alexander Britell - February 25, 2023

Rainforests, beaches, volcanoes and world-class restaurants. The island of Basse-Terre in the Guadeloupe archipelago has long boasted one of the most diverse travel offerings in the Eastern Caribbean.

But that hasn’t included a must-visit luxury resort.

But that may have just changed.

The new addition is called Les Galets Rouge, and it’s set near the Bain de Cure on the western coast of the island, south of Pointe Noire.

The colorful new 24-room hotel has one decidedly big draw: every room has its own private plunge pool — the only hotel of its kind in Guadeloupe.

The hotel has two eateries: one a fine-dining option, The Restaurant of Les Galets Rouges, and a beachfront eatery called Galets Beach.

The hotel even offers a rather nice option — a “floating breakfast” of classic French morning fare served on a floating tray in your pool.

Floating breakfast is available for a small fee.

There’s also an on-site spa, therapeutic bath and a lounge area.

It’s a serious new addition to the island’s hotel product, and instantly one of the French Caribbean’s hottest new hotels, joining another Basse-Terre newbie, the boutique Habitation Saint Charles in the northeast of the island.

The resort is also a nod to what has become one of the hottest things in Caribbean travel: the plunge pool resort, a hotel where either every room or a vast majority of the rooms boast their own plunge pools: hotels like Hammock Cove in Antigua and Serenity at Coconut Bay in Saint Lucia, two properties that almost single-handedly kicked off the trend in the region.

Most importantly, it’s the best place to stay on the west coast of Basse-Terre, home to some of the best beaches in Guadeloupe and the culinary capital of Deshaies, the fishing village that’s perhaps best known as the filming location for the BBC series “Death in Paradise.”

The new resort is located on a stunning bay on the western coast of Basse-Terre.

While this new hotel should prove an alluring option for travelers, the biggest question with Guadeloupe is always this: how do you get there?

Right now, there are actually some good options for travelers from the United States. That includes three weekly JetBlue flights from New York to Pointe-a-Pitre, and two ways to get there from Miami: twice-weekly nonstop service on Air France (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and once-weekly flights on American Airlines.
