Jimmy Buffett’s Newest Margaritaville Is Opening in Belize

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 24, 2023

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville brand is opening its newest Caribbean hotel in Belize.

The highly-anticipated Margaritaville Beach Resort will be opening in the Ambergris Caye area of Belize April.

The resort has announced plans to open in March; the first rooms that can be booked are available starting April 2, however, according to the Karisma Hotels Web site.

It will be a very different kind of Margaritaville for the Caribbean, with a decidedly boutique feel and just 55 rooms, all suites, all built in a residential layout.

The rooms will range from one and two-bedroom suites to a two-bedroom penthouse suite with a wraparound terrace.

Amenities will include two pools, a St Somewhere Spa, a fitness center, a barbecue-and-picnic area, a restaurant and two bars.

The signature eatery is Riddles in the Sand, a toes-in-the-sand eatery with a focus on seafood; that’s along with the Sandbar, adjacent to Riddles, and “The Boat Drinks,” what the hotel calls a “key component” of both the open-air lobby and the pool.

There is also a retail shop called Smuggler’s Hold.

All of the rooms have oversized terraces with Adirondack chairs, 55-inch smart TVs and views of either the ocean or the surrounding mangroves.

The resort is set in the coastal town of San Pedro, and can only be accessed by boat (the company has transfers right to the hotel pier).

The resort, which will be an EP hotel (that is, not all-inclusive), is part of a growing Caribbean portfolio for Margaritaville, one that has been expanding in recent years thanks to the company’s alliance with Karisma Hotels and Resorts.

That relationship has led to the debut of several Margaritavile Island Reserve resorts, including one in the Mexican Caribbean and another in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic.

The two companies have also collaborated on the St Somewhere resort on Holbox Island in Mexico.
