Grenada Is Breaking Tourism Records

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - December 29, 2022

Grenada is seeing visitor numbers ahead of its record-breaking pace from 2019, before the onset of the pandemic.

The island just saw its visitor numbers surpass its pre-pandemic totals for the third consecutive month.

That included 14,232 visitors in November, the highest-ever total for that month — a 17 percent increase over November 2019.

December is also projected to surpass the previous high from 2019.

The news comes as Grenada has seen the return of all of its international flights, including twice weekly service on Air Canada and weekly Sunday service on Sunwing.

“We continue to build our brand equity so that travelers keep Grenada in their consideration set of destinations they want to visit,” said Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority. “We are laser focused on attracting visitors who want to take advantage of our safe environment, numerous community initiatives and who want to get out and about.”

The recovery has been driven by the United States market, which accounts for more than 60 percent of all visitors to the island.

Grenada is projecting the US market to finish this year with a 2 percent improvement over 2019.

That “shows how strong our recovery has been,” said Grenada’s Minister of Tourism, Lennox Andrews.
