Dominican Republic Airline Expands to Jamaica

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 12, 2022

Upstart Dominican Republic airline Arajet is adding another new route in the Caribbean, this time to Jamaica.

Arajet this week is launching a new route between two Caribbean capitals: Santo Domingo and Kingston, Jamaica, with service operating nonstop on Mondays and Fridays.

It’s the latest addition for the low-cost carrier, which has already kicked off routes to destinations like Curacao and Aruba.

“I could not be more pleased to welcome this new direct route between the Dominican Republic and Jamaica by Arajet,” said Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett. “Air connectivity is the single most important factor in growing visitor arrivals and building tourism. Therefore, this partnership is key to building the infrastructure needed to improve convenient flight options within the Caribbean and Latin American region.”

Angie Martinez, the Dominican Republic’s Ambassador to Jamaica and Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.

It’s an important new route between the two countries, shaving what had been a nearly 20-hour travel experience with connections to just a one hour and 10-minute flight.

And it’s another new route for Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport, which has been quietly seeing strong growth in new routes in the last several years.

Arajet, which launched operations earlier this year, ays it has even bigger plans, with the ambition to connect more than 20 destinations across 12 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States with a hub in Santo Domingo.
